Which Learning Style works Best?
There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to learning. Every individual has their unique learning style. Some students learn quickly while others learn slowly. Some students are uninterested in learning while others find the subject material interesting.
The best way to learn is to find a method that suits your learning style & then realizes your academic potential. For example, if you are a slow learner, private home tuition or personal instruction is highly recommended in order to cope with the subject content. If you are a quick learner, you can learn “ahead” or explore advanced topics with a private tutor. Online Tuition is highly recommended for highly able students. Now you can learn from the best tutor without geographical constraints!
It is important to understand the different types of learners in order to provide the best possible education and instruction:
- Slow learners generally require more time to absorb and retention information. They may need personalised or one-to-one instruction in order to grasp concepts fully.
- Quick learners, on the other hand, are able to understand and learn concepts quickly. They may require less repetition and reinforcement in order to remember information.
- Uninterested students may require different methods of instruction in order to engage them in learning. They may benefit from a more hands-on or experiential approach.
If you are unsure of your child’s learning style, it is best to consult with a professional tutor who can assess and identify the best method of instruction for your child. Home Tuition is considered the best approach as the instruction is tailored to a particular student & the 1 to 1 interaction provides the time to assess & understand the student. The tutor will use the initial lessons to discover the students’ strengths & areas for improvement. A learning plan will then be drawn up to allow the student to progress.
There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to learning. Since every individual has their own unique learning style, the method of instruction must cater to this. We cannot expect schools to do this in a class of 25 to 35 students. They do try but many students are either “left out” or “left behind”. Supplemental instruction outside of school in the form of a private tutor (home tutor) is a viable alternative.
If you are a slow learner, private tuition or personal instruction will be the best way for you to learn as the tutor to adopt a lesson pace that is favorable to the student. If you are a quick learner, private tuition can focus on teaching “ahead” or exploring advanced topics. The “uninterested” student is always a challenge but the solution is simple, make the lessons appeal to the student. A private tutor with relevant experience will be up to this challenge.
